Pastor Tom Summers

I'm Pastor Tom Summers.  I would like to invite you to join us in ministry at Carver Road Baptist Church.  As a Testimony to God, that He can and will use all that are willing, I would like to briefly share what God has done in my life.

I spent my childhood wishing someone would adopt me.  I did not know my biological father growing up.  I used to fantasize that he was a wonderful, wealthy man, desperately searching to find me.  I hoped he would one day rescue me from a stepfather that did not want me and a mother that had to many problems of her own.  I finally met him when I was 18.  He was nothing like I dreamed.  He was an alcoholic that did not want me either.

I grew up very hard.  I left home when I was around 15.  Over the next several years I slept under a bridge, in a car and even stayed with a motorcycle gang.  Living like this caused my heart to become very hard.  I did not understand why I had to go through what I did.  I became angry with everyone, including God.  This began my addiction to alcohol and drugs.

I eventually married and had three daughters.  My wife was a Christian and my daughters became Christians too.  They lived their lives for the Lord as an example in front of me.   Finally, after 15 years of marriage and five failed rehab visits in a year and a half, I agreed to go to church with my family.  I fought not to ask the Lord for His help for about six weeks, before admitting I needed a Savior and asking Him into my heart.  I have not missed a church service or touched drugs or alcohol since that time.

You see, I had finally been adopted.  I had something much better than any earthly father could give.  I now had a heavenly Father that loved me so much he sent His son, Jesus, to die on a cross for my sin.  He paid a debt He did not owe for a sinner who did not deserve it.  The world offered me a 12 step program, a short-term solution for a long-term problem.  Jesus offered me a one-step program, a permanent solution to a temporary problem, eternal life through Jesus Christ.

When He saved me, He called me to preach.  Within three months of that calling I was in seminary and preaching full time.  I have been adopted by a Father that loves me unconditionally.  He allows me to be used in the "family business" of leading the lost to Him for His glory.
